What began as a small crack in the solid concept of early detection and early treatment for prostate cancer has now widened and spread.

A ‘paradigm shift’ in the treatment of prostate cancer has been heralded following the findings of a recent trial of new focal therapy. It appears for the first time in print in the Journal of Urology on Monday 4 April 2011.

"The cancer itself never did any damage. It was the treatments that razed me — the surgery, radiation and hormones producing a catalog of miseries that included impotence, incontinence and hot flashes."

Should we continue any test that offers some chance of preventing a death, regardless of the odds or the costs associated with the testing?

Our current medical care system is not designed to do well at making these decisions.

Best-of-Class Research Investment Strategy

The Foundation employs a Best-of-Class Research Investment Strategy, operating similar to a venture capital model, where we source, vet, fund and track high potential prostate cancer research opportunities from around the US. Collaboation is the critical fifth step in the process. In partnership with Sir Peter Michael's UK foundation, The Pelican Cancer Foundation, The Peter Michael Foundation sponsors a Prostate Cancer Colloquium every other May in which scientists, researchers and clinicians from Europe and the United States come together to share research findings, discuss and debate the implications, and inspire progress and solutions. It is the intention of The Peter Michael Foundation to serve as a catalyst in achieving true medical breakthroughs that are significant, innovative, effective and newsworthy.
