Should we continue any test that offers some chance of preventing a death, regardless of the odds or the costs associated with the testing?

Our current medical care system is not designed to do well at making these decisions.

Experts soften recommendations on cancer screenings

Universal routine screenings may not always be the best option for improving public health

Our Mission

The Peter Michael Foundation is on a quest to discover and underwrite the most promising tools and technologies for the identification, treatment and management of prostate cancer. The Foundation is finding and funding truly innovative research with exceptional scientists at world-class institutions. The Foundation is currently underwriting postdoctoral research fellows at: Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center University of California, Institute for Quantitative Biosciences Stanford University School of Medicine, Molecular Imaging Scholars Discussions are also underway with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Duke University School of Medicine.

Best-of-Class Research Investment Strategy

The Foundation employs a Best-of-Class Research Investment Strategy, operating similar to a venture capital model, where we source, vet, fund and track high potential prostate cancer research opportunities from around the US. Collaboation is the critical fifth step in the process. In partnership with Sir Peter Michael's UK foundation, The Pelican Cancer Foundation, The Peter Michael Foundation sponsors a Prostate Cancer Colloquium every other May in which scientists, researchers and clinicians from Europe and the United States come together to share research findings, discuss and debate the implications, and inspire progress and solutions. It is the intention of The Peter Michael Foundation to serve as a catalyst in achieving true medical breakthroughs that are significant, innovative, effective and newsworthy.
